Officers learned that Escalera left a local bar where she consumed alcoholic drinks. Escalera informed Officers that she was supposed to be the “DD”.  DD is also known as a designated driver.  Officers observed an empty bottle of “Rebel Yell, Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey” in the front seat.

Escalera consented to provide a breath sample.  The results were .184/.181.  Twice the legal limit.  Escalera was taken for medical clearance before being transported to jail.

The Port St Lucie Police Department has increased our DUI enforcement/awareness this year.  The number of DUI arrests have increased from the previous year.  We remind drivers not to consume any substance that could impair your driving.  Please use a ride sharing service.  We are thankful nobody was seriously injured in this accident.
