Port St Lucie Police Arrest Driver for DUI after striking 3 parked vehicles
Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -On May 9th, at approximately 1:00am, Port St Lucie Police Officers responded to the area of SW Cycle St/SW California Blvd in reference to a traffic crash
Port St Lucie Police Officers found a total of three parked vehicles that were struck. The driver of a 2010 Hyundai Elantra, Melanie Escalera (4/21/1981), was ultimately arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license. While Officers were on scene the engine compartment of Escalera’s vehicle caught fire, and Officers were able to extinguish the fire with their issued fire extinguishers.

Officers learned that Escalera left a local bar where she consumed alcoholic drinks. Escalera informed Officers that she was supposed to be the “DD”. DD is also known as a designated driver. Officers observed an empty bottle of “Rebel Yell, Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey” in the front seat.
Escalera consented to provide a breath sample. The results were .184/.181. Twice the legal limit. Escalera was taken for medical clearance before being transported to jail.
