Woman Charged with Attacking Corrections Deputy

Last night, as inmate Katheryn Chinn (23) was being moved from her cell to the showers, she suddenly placed her handcuffed arms around the neck of Deputy Jeff Wolski from behind, attempting to choke him with her handcuffs. Chinn was originally booked into the Indian River County Jail on November 30, 2015  for the charge of felony battery on a law enforcement officer, stemming from an incident where she is alleged to have attacked a Vero Beach Police Officer. She was being held on $5,000.00 bond until her first appearance today, where the Honorable Judge Morgan issued a bond of $150,000.00 for this new charge of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “This incident goes to show the dangers that our corrections deputies face each and every day. While most of our citizens were home sleeping, one of our corrections deputies was injured by an inmate. With so many tragic events capturing the attention of the national media, we are proud of our men and women who work hard every day to keep the public safe and protect us.” Deputy Wolksi was treated at Indian River Medical Center for his injuries. He received two stitches and will continue to follow up with doctors until he is released to full duty.
