Two men were injured when lightning struck a crane at a construction site where a new home was being built on Dixie Highway in Hobe Sound. Both were taken to Martin Memorial South with non-life threatening injuries, OSHA was called in to investigate.
The victims are identified as 33-year old Derek Harasen of Sebastian and 34-year old Floyd Patterson of West Palm Beach.
The crane was owned by RMB Crane in Ft. Pierce.
According to a report from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the two victims were on the roof of the home that is under construction, and one of them was holding wire attached to the crane when the lightning bolt hit.
Harasen was treated and released at the hospital, Patterson was admitted and was listed in good condition.
