Tropical Storm Ida forms, could hit US as a hurricane

Miami, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -Tropical Storm Ida has formed in the Caribbean Sea and confidence is growing that a potentially major hurricane could hit the United States by late this weekend or early next week.

The system is forecast to approach the northern Gulf Coast of the US on Sunday, the NHC said.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Cayman Islands and western Cuba. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.

* Vermilion Bay, Lake Borgne, Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and

* Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and Metropolitan New Orleans

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for...
* Cayman Islands
* Cuban provinces of Matanzas, Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa, Pinar
del Rio, and the Isle of Youth

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for...
* Mississippi/Alabama border to the Alabama/Florida border.
