Tropical Depression 13 forms with Florida in its cone

Miami, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- Tropical Depression 13 has formed in the Atlantic with Florida in its cone. The depression is one of three systems being monitored by the National Hurricane Center.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, the Tropical Depression was located 830 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands with winds reaching 35 mph. It is moving west-northwest at 21 mph.

The National Hurricane Center is reporting the depression is expected to move near or north of the northern Leeward Islands by late Friday and near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Some gradual development of this system is possible over the next day or so while it moves westward at about 15 mph to 20 mph across the central Caribbean Sea, forecasters say. After that time, the wave is forecast to move more slowly west-northwestward, and a tropical depression is likely to form late this week or this weekend when the system reaches the northwestern Caribbean Sea. The chance of formation is 80% over the next five days.

When this storm increases it will become Tropical Storm Laura.
