St Lucie County woman arrested for animal cruelty

St Lucie County, Fl- Following an animal neglect and cruelty case from May 30th, a complete investigation by both St. Lucie Sheriff’s detectives and St. Lucie County Animal Control officers led to the arrest of 43-year-old Elsa Bertha Colina of the 2400 block of South 38th Street.

The original case began on May 30.  Detectives received a tip about dogs being held in poor conditions at a home lived in by Colina. Once on scene, detectives seized 13 dogs, found one dead at the home and another died while being taken to a local veterinarian. Those seized were taken to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.

Colina was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail and held on a $100,000 bond.

“I’m especially committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our community – our children, those with special needs, the elderly and our animals,” said Sheriff Ken J. Mascara. “We are their voice and  justice. Hopefully the arrest of Elsa Colina will bring justice to the animals she abused and neglected.”
