As 2015 comes to a close, Port St. Lucie has again been named as a national leader, this time ranking on the Milken Institute’s 2015 Best-Performing Cities report.

Each year, the organization ranks the most dynamic U.S. metropolitan areas by how well they create jobs and economic growth. They evaluate employment rates, wage gains and technology trends that shape current and potential patterns of regional growth.

For 2015, Port St. Lucie made the biggest gains for any metropolitan area in the nation, climbing 98 spots to number 80. Eight of the 25 biggest gainers were in Florida, aided by an influx of retirees and an increase in tourism.

Subtitled “Where America’s jobs are created and sustained,” the report says the main reason for the Florida gains is “the recovery from the Great Recession’s housing collapse … Plus, as the economy began to recover, many retirees who had deferred moving to Florida have chosen to do so over the past couple of years.”

According to their website, the Milken Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan economic think tank, which “works to improve lives around the world by advancing innovative economic and policy solutions that create jobs, widen access to capital, and enhance health.”
