You’ve probably heard of the popular ‘sip and strokes’ or ‘paint on the vine’ events where participants gather to follow an instructor in painting the same image while sharing some adult libations. The usual cost for this fun evening can range rom $30-45 per person.
What if you could enjoy the same concept, but in a ‘greener’ manner, creating an original piece of art, working with all rescued materials, and it only costs $10? That is exactly what the non-profit creative reuse center, Resource Depot, is offering this month.
On Thursday December 10th from 6-7:30 PM a Print Making Workshop is being held by local artist Kim Spivey. After a quick introduction to the art of printmaking, Ms. Spivey will help participants create simple patterns using textured items from the Resource Depot warehouse to make relief prints. The final product could be used as a sheet of wrapping paper or unique wall art.
Bring a bottle of wine, some friends and enjoy some creative reuse; no art experience necessary. This event is for adults only please with a suggested $10 donation. Later in the month is a second workshop for the whole family.
On Saturday December 19th from 9am-12pm, bring the family over to Resource Depot and join in on a Holiday “Relief” creative workshop with local print-maker Kim Spivey. Using soft foam from egg crates, participants will draw simple shapes into the surface and print them like a stamp. Also textured items from the warehouse will be set up for making rubbings. Together, parent and child can make holiday cards or calendars with the prints they create. All ages are welcome with a suggested $5 donation per parent/child combo.
While you are at Resource Depot for either of these events you can venture into the new art gallery, which features Ms. Spivey’s art until January 6, 2016. Resource Depot is venturing into new and exciting waters, showcasing a different local artist working with repurposed materials from the warehouse every quarter.
