FORT PIERCE: ONE KILLED FOLLOWING HIT & RUN ON SOUTH US HIGHWAY 1

Fort Pierce, Fl  (treasurecoast.com)- The Fort Pierce Police have reported that one person was killed following a hit  & run on South Hwy 1.
On 02/09/2022 at 2:36 a.m., Fort Pierce Police Officers responded to Midway Road and South US Highway 1 in reference to a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic fatality. The driver, 53-year-old Carol Roger Dakin, was traveling southbound on South US Highway 1 approaching the intersection of West Midway Road when he struck a 55-year old male pedestrian and his dog.
Dakin continued traveling southbound after crashing into the victim until a St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped him in the 5500 Block of South US Highway 1.
The St. Lucie County Fire District pronounced the victim deceased on scene. Unfortunately, the victim’s dog also succumbed to its injuries.
Dakin was taken into custody and charged with one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death.
His bond is set at $100,000.
