Numerous Tires Slashed in Fellsmere-Police Seeking Assistance
Loss to victims estimated at $11,420
The Fellsmere Police Department is asking the public for assistance in solving numerous vandalism cases. Since January 10, 2015, officers have taken thirteen reports involving car tires being slashed by either a small tool or knife. It is undetermined if the incidents are the work of one or more persons or if they are separate or related.
While there are some exceptions, the majority of the incidents occurred during the hours of darkness in the south central area of Fellsmere, specifically on streets between South Cypress and South Hickory, south of CR 512 (see chart on page 2).
In all cases, the victim’s vehicles were parked outside their homes, either in their driveway, yard, or street. Some victims reported only one vehicle was vandalized, while others reported multiple were vandalized. The latest victims on October 4th reported that 20 tires on six vehicles were slashed, estimating their combined loss at $2,200.
It should be noted that vandalism (criminal mischief) is a third degree felony of the property loss is in excess of $1000.00.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS or Detective Larry Lawson at 772-360-5782. Tipsters could receive up to a $3000 reward.
