Lake Park Man Dies after Hit and Run on I95 in Martin County

A  Lake Part man is dead following a hit and run on northbound I-95 early Sunday morning.

FHP says 68-year old Lawrence Alkema of Lake Park was driving a red Ford Ranger truck northbound along I-95 toward Bridge Road when he was hit from behind by a white Jaguar.

Alkema was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jaguar was found by authorities a mile north of the accident scene, pulled over on the side of the highway.  There was no driver in the car.  Police used helicopters and search dogs to try to find the suspect, who FHP says fled on foot.

Authorities say that the owner of the white Jaguar is 48-year old Jack Brown of Deerfield Beach. Brown was located by investigators in Stuart. He’s was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Florida Highway Patrol says Brown has retained an attorney, but it is unclear if he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
