Land Crabs Crossing Roads and Crawling Into Open Doors

Crab1

Land crabs are migrating east through October, but this is peak mating season. That means, right now the crabs are on the move, crossing roads and crawling into open doors.

When they migrate depends on when we get rainfall. Heavy rains get them moving. They’re getting ready to spawn, so you’ll see them moving to the coast all the way from Miami and throughout South Florida.

They look like a really big fiddler crab and are a handful.

They are not harmful to humans or pets. But beware, if you run over them, they can puncture your tire because of their hard shell.
