MCSO DETECTIVES TRAVEL TO MIAMI TO MAKE AN ARREST IN THRIFT STORE ROBBERY, SUSPECT SAYS HE WAS HEADED TO CUBA

Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives, with assistance from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and the FBI, tracked and arrested the suspect who robbed a Martin County thrift store at gunpoint last month.

Last night, Martin County Detectives traveled to Miami after getting a tip that 36-year old Michael Wayne Lawson was in the area. Detectives waited outside a Miami drug store, where Lawson was supposed to be purchasing cigarettes. As he walked out, detectives took him into custody. A gun was found inside Lawson’s backpack. Lawson confessed to the robbery at the Mi Pueblo Thrift Store and told detectives they caught him in the nick of time, as he had plans to leave for Cuba today.

Lawson was a fugitive from justice and is wanted on outstanding warrants in Idaho and Texas. He lists himself as being homeless, and says he has affiliations to the Bandidos Motorcycle Club.

Wayne Michael Lawson was brought back to Martin County, and was charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon. He is also a fugitive from justice, and as such has no bond.
