St. Lucie County Hurricane Isaias Update No. 1

  1. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie County’s Public Safety staff is monitoring Hurricane Isaias, which is expected to stay off the coast of Florida, potentially impacting the Treasure Coast with tropical force storm winds and rains Saturday evening into Sunday morning. However, there is the possibility that hurricane conditions could impact the region if the storm tracks closer to the east coast. The more severe impacts are expected to be felt east of U.S. 1 and along the barrier island.

St. Lucie County’s Emergency Management staff is urging residents to shelter in place during this event, as there are no immediate plans to open shelters or issue evacuations.

Rainfall could reach up to 5 inches across coastal counties with the heaviest totals expected for the Treasure Coast. Please remember to avoid driving through standing water.

St. Lucie County’s Building and Code Compliance Division asked all active construction sites to secure debris, trash, equipment and construction materials before the storm arrives. Additionally, candidates should remove/pickup all political signs.

St. Lucie County Parks & Recreation Department has canceled public programs on Saturday and Sunday including all three county pools (Ravenswood, Lakewood Park and Lincoln Park); the St. Lucie County Aquarium and Regional History Center.

All St. Lucie County Libraries will provide curbside pick-up from 10 a.m. to noon. The Kilmer (101 Melody Lane, Fort Pierce) and Lewis (2950 SW Rosser Blvd, Port St. Lucie) Branch Libraries be open from 10 a.m. to noon as well for in-person visits.

Residents are reminded to not place large piles of vegetative debris along the roadside until after the storm has passed. Waste Pro will provide normally scheduled service.
