The St. Lucie County Fire District, the state Fire Marshal’s Office and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a suspicious fire at 594 Beach Avenue in unincorporated St. Lucie County.
Firefighters arrived at the fully involved home at 12:41 a.m. While firefighters were extinguishing the fire, the roof collapsed. They left around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and returned later in the morning.
That afternoon, a body was discovered inside the home burned beyond recognition.
An open safe with its contents missing was found.
An autopsy on the body is to be scheduled.
