All St. Lucie County beaches North & South are closed for the rest of the day due to sharks.
There were several shark sightings Monday afternoon. The sightings led county officials to close all public beaches.
St. Lucie County spokesman stated “We started seeing them around 2 p.m. and they just weren’t leaving,”
The decisions was made around 4 p.m. to close the beaches after the sharks were sighted at Waveland Beach and Pepper Park beach.
The beach has been closed eight times in the past couple of weeks and lasted up to a couple of hours each time.
These closures are common during shark sightings.
Public safety officials urge residents to swim near lifeguards at beaches and call 911 if you spot a shark.
