Port St Lucie Police Arrest Convicted Felon for Impersonating an Officer

Port St Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) – On April 19, 2021 Port St Lucie Police Officers responded to the 1500 Blk of SW Del Rio Blvd about a suspicious person.  The caller stated a male came up to his door stating he was an “off-duty detective”, and looking for a particular woman by name, about a “ticket”, and a “possible fraud case”.  The subject kept walking closer to the door.  The complainant asked for identification from the person, and he responded by saying he did not have it on him.  The subject walked back to his car and did not return to the front door

The subject was later identified as Matthew Torrent (5/16/84).  Officers located Torrent in the driveway of the house next to a blue Audi.  Torrent told Officers he was there “to give a friend some money”.  While speaking with Torrent, Officers observed an empty pink holster between the driver’s side seat and the center console.  A 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun was located under the passenger seat.

Torrent was taken to jail and charged with False personation of a Police Officer and Possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer is something we take very seriously.  The public places a great deal of trust in our Officers and nobody should be out there impersonating an Officer.  If there are other incidents involving Torrent that have gone unreported, please contact 911 to make a police report.
