Volunteers Sought to Clean Up St. Lucie County Beaches

St. Lucie County

St Lucie County

HUTCHINSON ISLAND– Due to recent cargo spill, St. Lucie County’s Parks crews will be periodically patrolling the beaches to pick up debris over the next couple of weeks.

Thousands of items ranging from bricks of coffee to individual bags of juice have been washing up along Treasure Coast beaches for the past few days, after more than two dozen cargo containers went missing from a barge carrying supplies to Puerto Rico.

St. Lucie County Parks crews and lifeguards have reported that most area beaches are debris free. However, if residents would like to volunteer to help clean up local beaches, garbage bags may be provided and trash pick-up scheduled.  To participate please call the St. Lucie County Parks Special Facilities Division at 772-462-1522.
