With the help of MCSO’s Marine Unit, Corporal Ronnie Manganiello and his partner, K-9 Maverick were able to get closer to a deep embankment surrounded by water, where K-9 Maverick began to alert. As the patrol boat moved closer to the area, Maverick continued to warn his team that the suspect was nearby. After ignoring several commands for the suspect to show himself and surrender, Maverick was deployed on the embankment.

Within seconds Maverick located Umholtz hiding under the vegetation. Umholtz still refused to surrender. Instead, he tried pinning Maverick against a tree and grabbed his snout in an attempt to drag him in the water.
