Stuart, Fl- U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson faced an upset crowd of locals during a visit to Stuart Thursday. It was standing room only.

Senator Nelson said he’s fast-tracking the repairs on the Herbert Hoover Dike.

Now, the Army Corps of Engineers is approved to complete the project by 2022, three years earlier than expected.

According to Senator Nelson, $1 billion have already been spent with an additional $720 million to go. Nelson said that money will officially come from the Hurricane Disaster Assistance fund, a pot of money holding $80 billion dollars.

Sen. Nelson also said that he will create a placeholder for the southern reservoir. The U.S. senate will vote on this next week.
