Armed Standoff Ended in Martin County

An armed subject who prompted a police pursuit on I-95 in Indian River County, through St. Lucie County, and into Martin County, ended last night, following an interstate stand-off with Martin County Sheriff’s deputies.

The armed subject was reportedly threatening law enforcement with a gun, prompting the initial pursuit. The suspect jumped on I-95 in Indian River County, and began heading southbound. He refused to stop exceeding speeds of more than 100-miles per hour.

Martin County Sheriff’s Deputies immediately shut down parts of I-95 between Martin Highway and High Meadow Avenue, as the pursuit moved into Martin County. MCSO Watch Commander, Lt. Danny Cunningham set up along the interstate and deployed stop sticks as the car approached, blowing out the suspect vehicle tires. The car came to a stop, but the man refused to exit. He then displayed a gun.

Following a short stand-off, the suspect surrendered. He was taken into custody and faces charges in Indian River County, and other jurisdictions.
