Stuart Mayor accused of Age discrimination
The city of Stuart once again finds itself in a situation where its mayor is accused of discrimination.
Former Mayor Eula Clarke was forced to resign as mayor back in February.
Now, current mayor Tom Campenni is under investigation, accused of age discrimination.
It all revolves around the city’s search for a successor to City Manager Paul Nicoletti, who is set to retire in July.
Mayor Campenni told Public Works Director Sam Amerson that he would not be voting for him to replace Nicoletti as City Manager. He will be voting for police chief David Dyess because the city quote “needs a younger guy with fresh ideas”
Amerson complained to the city’s Human Resources department, which has now opened an investigations into Mayor Campenni.
In a letter to city staff sent Monday, Mayor Campenni said that he did not express himself properly. He said he wasn’t trying to discourage anyone from applying.
