On the evening of Monday, December 14, a traffic accident occurred involving a Palm Tran bus and a vehicle. No passengers were on board the bus, as it was on the way back to base after completing the Route 2. At the intersection of Australian Avenue and Belvedere Road, a vehicle ran through a red light and struck the bus, causing it to hit a cement light pole.
Certain media outlets have reported the bus operator was on a cell phone during the accident but this is false. The on-board video taken from the bus has been released to the media which shows that the operator was not on a cell phone.
At Palm Tran, the safety of our bus operators and passengers is our first priority. We’re very disappointed an accident occurred, but are grateful that no serious injuries were sustained.
