“These operations remind business owners the importance of having policies in place to prevent alcohol sales to those who are underage,” said Sheriff Mascara. “We are trying to prevent the tragedies we have witnessed with underage drinking.”

According to Sheriff Mascara, School Resource Deputies carefully supervised underage St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Explorer volunteers who attempted to purchase alcohol without showing proof of legal age. The Sheriff’s Office issued notices to appear in court for the misdemeanor violation to those businesses who failed to ID the underage minors.

“National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data shows that 28 people lose their lives every day as a result of drunk driving,” said Sheriff Mascara. “The consequences of drinking and driving are a major concern, as is the health and safety of our teens and young adults.”
