St. Lucie River Princess may close due to Toxic Water
An iconic tourist attraction is forced to shut down due to the polluted waterways on the Treasure Coast. The St. Lucie River Princess is an ecological cruise that travels up and down the St. Lucie River but may come to a halt due to the toxic water releases from Lake Okeechobee.
Governor Rick Scott declared States of Emergency for 3 Florida counties suffering from polluted waterways that can make you sick, meaning businesses could try and file for their losses. It turns out you can only declare losses for your business from the toxic waters if you have 2 employees or more. Most charter guides, commercial fishermen, and even small shop owners don’t qualify.
80-year-old Captain Ray Clarke said he has to shut down the tour, since he is the only employee. He plans to run tours through the rest of the month.
