St. Lucie County to Assist MCAC with Deployment of Two Vessels

ST  LUCIE COUNTY – Weather permitting, St. Lucie County Artificial Reef Program will be assisting the MCAC Artificial Reef Fund in deploying two vessels to honor the late Capt. Patrick Price on Monday, Jan. 17 and Tuesday, Jan. 18.  Capt. Price was the well-known and widely-respected charter captain of Daymaker Charters in Stuart.

Two vessels will be deployed on St. Lucie County’s Fort Pierce Sportfishing Club Artificial Reef Site. The 98-foot “Last One” and the 65-foot “Spirit of Palm Beach” will be deployed in 180-foot and 100-foot depths, respectively, to benefit both the fishing and diving communities.  These reefs will provide habitat for numerous fish species, including both bottom fish like snappers and groupers and pelagic species like mackerel and blackfin tuna (Thunnus atlanticus).

The MCAC Artificial Reef Fund has cleaned both vessels according to United States Coast Guard and Environmental Protection Agency standards and has also provided funds with which to deploy both vessels.  Funding for this project came from many individuals in the community, MCAC and St. Lucie County in a show of support for Capt. Price.
