St. Lucie County Urges Residents to Part in the 10th Annual Dump the Pump Day June 18
- LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie County Community Services is joining other public transportation systems nationwide to support the 10th Annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 18 – “Dump the Pump, Ride Public Transit.” Throughout the day, the fix-route bus system will be free to all riders.
Give up your car for the day – take public transit! Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), National Dump the Pump Day emphasizes that public transportation is a convenient travel option that saves money. According to the Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of $9,394 each year by downsizing to one car.
A cornerstone of local economies in urban, suburban and rural communities, public transportation aids communities in being economically prosperous and competitive. For every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns.
