It was a special honor for one Treasure Coast student who is still recovering from brain damage.
10-year-old Peyton McCaughey received a standing ovation this weekend as he led the Martin County high school football team out onto the field. He took a lap around the field before the team kicked off its last home game of the year.
Peyton had been receiving treatment in Miami since mid-August after he was left unable to stand or even speak due to fumigation poisoning.
Sunland Pest Control, the company hired to fumigate his home, was then shut down by state investigators for faulty procedures.
As for Peyton’s treatment, family says he’s doing much better but is still fighting to get back to normal.
