Animal Control workers in Port St. Lucie say the dogs removed from a house of filth had better care than the two children.
Earlier this week, authorities removed 3 dogs and arrested the parents of a 9-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy found living at the home on SW Kolsted Street.
All the dogs were groomed at Animal care and control.
Police said the father told investigators that his family all slept on the sofa due to the mess in the rooms, and that his wife may be mentally ill and does not help clean around the house. Police found dog feces all over the kitchen floor, a smell of feces and rotting food throughout the home, dirty clothes, spoiled food and garbage everywhere. The children are now in the care of the Department of Children and Families. Animal Control says the dogs will not be allowed to return to the home until it’s cleaned up.
