Last night, detectives with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant in the 4200 block of 25th Avenue in Gifford, at the home of registered sexual offender Leonard Scott (37). Earlier in the evening, a complaint was received that Scott had molested a seven year old that was visiting a friend that lives with Scott. Evidence including statements provided by the victim and Scott led investigators to arrest Scott on charges of capital sexual battery on a minor. Scott was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts on a minor in 1997 and is listed as a registered sexual offender.
Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “Tragically, Leonard Scott committed another act of sexual abuse last night. Our investigators keep a close eye on the registered sexual offenders in Indian River County. We will not tolerate this type of activity and we will be sure that justice is served for this helpless child victim.” Scott is being held at the Indian River County Jail with no bond.
