PSLPD  respond to  54-year-old armed man experiencing  mental health crisis

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- The Port St.Lucie Police responded to a 54-year-old armed man experiencing a mental health crisis.

Here are the details:

At 10:13pm last night, PSLPD responded to the 100-Blk of NW Curry St in reference to a 54-year-old man armed with a gun experiencing a mental health crisis. A family member attempted to intervene and during the struggle, the firearm was discharged, inadvertently striking a 70-year-old family member in the arm. A family member called 911 while driving the gunshot victim to the hospital, where he was later released with non-life threatening injuries.

The 54-year-old man who was possibly armed, two adult family members and two young children were reported to still be inside the house.

Road Patrol Officers, PSLPD SWAT Team, and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the residence and attempted to make contact with the individuals for over 4 hours but were unable to do so.

The SWAT Team later made entry into house and took the 54-year-old man into custody for a mental health evaluation. The other family members were found safe and unharmed in a bedroom. Investigation is active and ongoing by Detectives at this time.
