PSLPD arrest fake veteran who passed himself off as a war hero

Port St Lucie, Fl- After a three week long investigation, Port St Lucie Police arrested 46 year old Edward Louis Liroff on April, 3, 2018, for uttering forged instrument, unlawful use of uniforms, medals, insignia to gain benefits, and fraudulently obtaining a Florida Driver’s License after he tried to secure a job with the City of PSL using a fraudulent DD214 form.

The investigation began on March 8, 2018, when the City of Port St. Lucie Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services received an application for employment for a code compliance officer from Liroff.  During the application process, Liroff produced a DD214 stating that he served in the US Military from 1988 – 2004.

Listed on the DD214 presented by Liroff it has listed that he is the recipient of:

Not being familiar with the DD214 form, the Assistant Director reviewing the application contacted Officer Joseph Byrne, a Military Veteran, to review the document.  Officer Byrne noted several irregularities on the DD214 and began his investigation into Liroff’s alleged US Military Service.

Upon completion of his investigation, Officer Joseph Byrne concluded that Liroff never served in the US Military.

Officer Byrne also discovered that Liroff has been receiving treatment from the Veteran’s Administration, fraudulently obtained a Florida Driver’s License with Veteran’s classification, fraudulently obtained a Florida’s Purple Heart vehicle registration, and presented a fake DD214 claiming Veteran’s preference to obtain a paid City position .

Officer presented his finding to the State Attorney’s Office and secured a warrant for Liroff’s arrest.  Liroff was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
