The Port St. Lucie Police Department has received Honorable Mention for their Outstanding Achievement in Law Enforcement Volunteer Programs. The honor comes from the International Police Chiefs Association. Taking the top two awards are the California Highway Patrol and Surprise Police Department, Arizona. Other agencies receiving Honorable Mention are Hamilton Police Service, Ontario and Rocklin Police Department, California. The 213 volunteers assist the department in many areas including the headquarters’ lobby, document courier service and citizen patrols. The program was started in 1995.
