Port St Lucie Police arrest man who angrily kicks ATM causing over $1000 in damage

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com)- On January 1, 2021 Port St Lucie Police responded to Publix (3253 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd) after they were alerted by a customer that their ATM was damaged.  Video surveillance showed an older white male approach the ATM, removes a card from his wallet, and begins a transaction from the ATM.  The system showed the suspect had a “zero” balance.  The suspect retrieves his card and then kicks the ATM touchscreen terminal with his right foot.  The suspect left in a black colored Nissan hatchback.  The damages sustained to the ATM due to his kick totaled $1,320.26

Port St Lucie Police Detectives were able to piece together the puzzle by subpoenaing PNC Bank for the debit card user’s information to assist in our criminal investigation.  Detectives learned the account was registered to Bradley Howard (4/29/1964).  Further investigation linked Howard to an address in Port St Lucie.  Police Officers drove by an address on the 600 Blk of SW Veronica Avenue and observed a black colored Nissan hatchback in a driveway.

Police Officers spoke with Bradley who indicated he was extremely upset that the ATM charged him money for the attempted withdraw.  He agreed to speak further with Detectives, who learned Bradley was not aware that the ATM would charge his account to check his balance.  Bradley offered to pay for the damages he caused.

Bradley was charged with Criminal Mischief over $1000.00.
