Port St. Lucie Police alerting residents to construction site burglaries
Port St. Lucie, Fla- Between the dates of January 29, 2018 thru March 5, 2018, Port St. Lucie Police received 7 incidents of construction site residential burglaries.
Port St. Lucie Police received an eighth construction site burglary on March 25, 2018, when police went to the 600 block of SW Homeland Road. In this case a witness saw two males loading a refrigerator from the construction site into a hatchback car. The suspect told the witness that they were installing the refrigerator, but it didn’t fit. The suspect was described as a white male in his 60’s with a black male accomplice.
Port St. Lucie currently has 888 new construction permits within the City limits. Police are asking the public’s help in cracking down on construction site burglaries. A few of examples of suspicious activity at a construct site are: construction material being removed from property, persons on construction site after business hours, and persons inside a house under construction after business hours.
Update 9:02 am:
On 3/23/18 police went to the 1200 block of SW Jacqueline Ave for reports of a burglary to a construction site. The suspect forced their way into the home under construction and stole an oven/range and attempted to steal the refrigerator but it would not fit through the enclosed patio screen door.
On 3/25 – 3/26/18 police went to 800 block of SW Dalton Ave where a washer/dryer was stolen and the suspects attempted to take the refrigerator but again it would not fit through the door.
This brings the total of construction theft / burglaries to 10 since the end of January 2018.
Police are asking for residents near a construction site to call in any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 or PSLPD non-emergency number (772) 871-5001.
