Port St. Lucie man arrested for hit and run after colliding with teen on bicycle then leaving the scene.

On Sunday, October 30, 2016, Port St. Lucie Police arrested Laurence Edward for leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid after he collided with a 15 year old bicyclist.

On Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 12:50 pm, Port St. Lucie Police went to the intersection of SW Airoso Boulevard and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard for reports of a hit and run involving a car and a 15 year old bicyclist.  Once on scene police were told that the 15 year old was crossing east on SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard at SW Airoso Boulevard in the crosswalk.  The bicyclist had the right away as the cross walk indicated “walk” for pedestrians to cross.  As the 15 year old was riding his bicycle in the crosswalk, a grey 2015 Honda Civic was traveling south on SW Airoso and collided with the bicyclist.

The Honda then left the scene without rendering aid to the 15 year old bicyclist as it continued west on SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard.  The 15 year old sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.  Witnesses relayed information to police on the hit and run car to include a detailed description and tag information.  Police located the driver of the hit and run car, Murphy, at his address on SW Chartwell Street.  Police also located Murphy’s car, which had a large dent on the hood.  Police reported that Murphy said that he panicked and didn’t know what to do.

Police arrested Murphy for the hit and run and transported him to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.  The 15 year old was treated and released from the hospital.
