 POLICE IDENTIFY 17 YR OLD SUSPECT AFTER 15 YR OLD FATALLY SHOT IN PSL

Port St. Lucie, Fl (treasurecoast.com) -The Port St. Lucie Police have identified and charged a 17-year-old boy with aggravated manslaughter of a child following the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy. This happened on Friday, Dec. 17, in Port St. Lucie.

Police say they received a call that someone had been shot inside of a car, the driver said that they were driving to the hospital.

Police say the suspect and victim were sitting in the back seat when the suspect “negligently mishandled” the firearm while pulling it out of the bag and pulled the trigger, striking the 15 year old.

The victim also had a gun.  Both guns were reported stolen in St. Lucie County.

They  headed towards St. Lucie Medical Center. While traveling south on U.S 1 police say the driver struck another vehicle near SE Tiffany Avenue and SE Hillmoor Drive.

Officers arrived to find the victim laying on the ground outside the vehicle, with a single gunshot to his left chest. Officers attempted life-saving procedures until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

Hurlburt and another passenger were treated at the hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

The suspect was taken in for questioning where he confessed to the shooting and said he acquired the guns from the victim.

Officials say the firearms were stolen out of St. Lucie County.

Hurlburt has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and carrying a concealed firearm under the age of 18.

He is being held at the St. Lucie County Juvenile Detention Center.
