Perry Cohen’s Parents meet with States Attorney regarding cell phone.
Pamela Cohen, Perry’s mother, says a recently found iPhone belonging to Austin could hold crucial information into what led to their disappearance.
They met Monday morning with their attorney and the State Attorney’s office.
Perry Cohen and his friend Austin Stephanos, both 14 at the time, were last seen July 24, 2015, on a boat leaving the Jupiter Inlet, heading out to sea.
Pamela says Austin’s family has refused to sign consent forms allowing Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators from analyzing the phone, and has filed a complaint, calling for an “emergency preliminary injunction to prevent the spoliation of evidence,” in the investigation.
Over the weekend it was revealed that the teens’ boat was recovered by a Norwegian supply ship about 100 miles off the coast of Bermuda, which contained Austin’s iPhone in a compartment. Blu Stephanos, Austin’s father, released a statement saying that they’ve been working closely with the FWC, and have been working with the phone’s manufacturer to try and get the phone operational again. The boat is currently being transported back to South Florida and is expected to be back in the United States by May 16.
