Hibiscus Children’s Center Welcomes New CEO

Treasure Coast, FL — Hibiscus Children’s Center is pleased to announce that Paul D. Sexton has been named as Chief Executive Officer.   In his role, Paul will oversee the organization that has provided life-changing services to abused children on the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County for over 30 years.  Paul will replace the former Chief Executive Officer, Michael J. Waninger, who has completed his two-year commitment to lead the organization.

Most recently, Paul was Chief Executive Officer of Highlands Behavioral Health System, a free-standing specialty hospital that provides comprehensive mental health services for adolescents and adults in Littleton, Colorado.  Prior to his role as Chief Executive Officer, Paul was the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for AspenPointe, a non-profit Community Mental Health organization.

Paul’s professional career includes numerous executive assignments in the public, non-profit and government sectors.  He has held the position of Human Resources Director and his government experience culminated in a distinguished 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force. His military career spanned numerous domestic and international locations including Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. Paul’s diverse background in Behavioral Healthcare and entrepreneurial business operations make him ideally suited to merge social mission with competitive business strategies to achieve social change and build healthier communities.

Paul is published in Behavioral Health Tomorrow and his work with military families has been covered in the New York Times, Time Magazine, and the Denver Post.  On numerous occasions, he has presented to and met with prominent political leaders in Washington D.C. regarding Behavioral Healthcare initiatives and Military Veteran issues.  Paul holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and undergraduate degrees in Organizational Development and Human Resources Administration.

As a former Colorado resident, Paul and his wife Donna are enjoying the beautiful and sunny Treasure Coast.    Paul shared, “I am excited to join the Hibiscus Children’s Center team and to continue building on the strong foundation that the generous Treasure Coast community has helped to create.  Together, we can impact our community so that families have the resources to succeed and children are protected and provided opportunities to thrive.”
