One person is dead after a plane crash near a neighborhood in Okeechobee County Friday. Authorities identified the pilot as John Bubel of Okeechobee. Neighbors said he was headed to Miami to pick up an experimental plane from a friend. The Federal Aviation Administration and the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office say the experimental aircraft went down near the Ousley Estates on Southwest 11th Way. The plane, licensed in Miami, had no documented issues since being built in 2008. Other pilots say it appears Bubel tried to bring the plane down in a lake just feet from homes.
