Palm Beach Gardens Police officer Nouman Raja, the man who shot and killed Corey Jones last month, has been fired. The termination became effective this past Wednesday.

It was reported that Chief Stephen Stepp went to Raja’s home to inform him of the firing.

Benjamin Crump, the attorney for the family of Corey Jones said they are pleased with the decision, but said Raja must be held “criminally liable” for the shooting death.

Jones’ car broke down on the off-ramp from Interstate 95 at PGA Boulevard.

Investigators said Raja, dressed in plainclothes, approached in an undercover van to what he believed to be an abandoned car.

Police said a “confrontation” ensued and Raja shot Jones to death.

The shooting is the subject of an outside investigation.
