“MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS”

“MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS” IS MARCH 23 AT MARTIN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

The Martin County School District will sponsor the 43rd Annual “Music in Our Schools” program. This will take place on Thursday, March 23 at 7pm.  The free event will be held in the gymnasium at Martin County High School. It will feature performances by hundreds of students from all grades and music levels.

The program is in recognition of the National Association for Music Education’s (NAfME) Music In Our Schools Month®.

All 12 of the District’s elementary schools will have their choruses perform as one, as will the five middle schools.   The choruses and bands from the District’s three high schools will also perform as a dynamic group.   In addition, there will be a performance by the county-wide chorus, “FRIENDS.”

Music Inspires

This year’s theme is “Music Inspires”. This is NAfME’s way of encouraging schools and communities around the country to get busy with activities and initiatives to raise awareness of the benefits of learning music and the ways that music can empower and enrich lives.

“’Music in Our Schools’ is one of the most emotional and inspirational events hosted by our school district,” says Janice Mills, one of the co- organizers of the event and principal at Spectrum Junior High School.

“Arts education is such a vital part of our curriculum and to be able to share the talents of our students with the community is an awesome reward,” she adds.

Co-organizer Joe Flanagan, the assistant principal at Anderson Middle School, will serve as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.  He has been involved with Music in Our Schools since 1988. He was the band director at South Fork High School.

The Education Foundation of Martin County is a co-sponsor of the event and has provided a grant that has supplied sheet music to the District’s elementary, middle, and high schools over the past three years.

The public and the media are invited to attend this incredible evening of musical entertainment. The program will provide a special opportunity for members of the community to understand, support, and become aware of the on-going processes of music education the District’s schools.

Martin County High School is located at 2801 South Kanner Highway in Stuart.
