MC Firefighters save Pets during fire.
Jessica Schiavi was feeling thankful during the Martin County fires. This is what she said on her Facebook Page:
“I am so truly grateful for our Martin County Firefighters!
Today was one of the scariest days of my life and could have ended tragically. That fire got so close to my house and the MCSD wouldn’t let me save my fur babies. Needless to say I was loosing my mind watching the smoke engulf my house.
The sheriff threatened to arrest me if I got any closer. That’s when my hero stepped in! He saw how distraught I was and asked if he could help. He asked my address, took my keys and disappeared into the smoke. 15 longggg minutes later 2 firefighters walked up holding my puppy and kitty!!! What a relief, they’re safe!!!
Wish I could have gotten my heroes names so I can thank them personally. So to whoever you are, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️❤️❤️
I don’t know who took this pic but that is one of my heroes holding My Leo”
Firefighters tackled seven wildfires in Martin, St Lucie, and Okeechobee counties. Lightning and prescribed burns have been ruled out as possible causes. It’s believed that a maintenance truck that got stuck in tall dry grass started one of the fires.
The fires led to long hours for several firefighters. According to their union a lack of funding has led to the department being understaffed, forcing long hours to make up the difference during this emergency.
