Powerball, Mega Millions lottery jackpots total $587 million — just in time for Christmas
The odds are tough, and the stakes are high — but, hey, if you win the Powerball or Mega Millions, you could call it a Christmas miracle.
As of Dec. 23, one jackpot is estimated at $400 million, with a cash value of $292 million, (numbers will be drawn Christmas Day, er, night) and the other $187 million, with a cash option of $134.3 million, (numbers will be drawn Christmas Eve).
Both jackpots total $587 million, just in time for Christmas.
Tuesday night’s Mega Millions lottery drawing rolled over — three months to the day — with a jackpot close to $190 million. The next drawing will be at 11 p.m. EST Friday, Christmas Eve.
Tickets cost $2.
Wednesday night’s Powerball lottery drawing also rolled over — the last big payout was $635 million on Oct. 2.
Like Mega Millions, Powerball tickets cost $2 apiece. Additional perks like Power Play cost $1.
The Powerball has only been won twice on Christmas Day — a $71.5 million jackpot in 2013 and a $48.8 million jackpot in 2010.
By the way, the odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega Ball are 1 in 302,575,350, and the odds of matching all the numbers in Powerball are 1 in 292.2 million.
You’ll have until an hour before the 11 p.m. drawings to purchase tickets for both.
