“Jupiter” Ascends on Hurston Library July 11

FORT PIERCE – The Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library presents the sci-fi, action film “Jupiter Ascending” (2015) on Saturday, July 11 at 2 p.m. as the Saturday Movie Matinee.

Featuring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, a young woman discovers her destiny as an heiress of intergalactic nobility and must fight to protect the inhabitants of Earth from an ancient and destructive industry. “Jupiter Ascending” is rated PG-13 with a running time of 127 minutes. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring a pillow or blanket and are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks.

If your children love Legos, don’t miss Legos at the Library at the Hurston Branch on the third Saturday of each month (July 18 ) from 4:30 – 5 p.m. Suited for grades kindergarten through 5th, this event gives children the freedom to play, build and create with an assortment of Legos.

Parents are also encouraged to bring their toddlers to the Huston Branch Library’s Storytime Jam every Thursday (July 2, 9, 15, 23, 30) at 10:30 a.m. And don’t miss the Hero Lab on Tuesdays (July 7, 14, 21) at 3 p.m., featuring hands-on science experiments for grades K-5th.

Special programs offered as part of the Summer Spectacular include:

  • The Florida Bat Conservancy on Thursday, July 9 at 2 p.m. – Bats are amazing creatures that are very important not only to the environment, but to humans and the many products we consume. Learn all about these mysterious mammals.
  • Tampa Taiko’s Traditional Japanese Drumming on Thursday, July 16 at 2 p.m. Rhythm, melody and movement are woven together in an exhilarating interactive musical experience.
  • The Reactory Factory on Thursday, July 23 at 2 p.m. Don’t miss this interactive Super Hero Show full of music, reading and fun. Join the Reactory Factory crew and their secret lab for hands-on learning in science, technology, art, math and more.

All programs are free and open to the public – thanks to the generous support of the Friends of the Library.
