The hunt is on for thieves that continue to target Treasure Coast stores.
Martin County Deputies say they believe a theft ring is involved in crimes from Hobe Sound to Palm City and have struck as recently as Monday night.
Investigators say the suspects walked into the CVS on Bridge Road in Hobe Sound in late December. While the woman distracted the clerk, deputies say the man broke into the locked perfume counter. Investigators say the man stuffed numerous items in his pants. After more than 10 minutes in the store, they walked out with more than $900 dollars’ worth in perfume.
Two weeks ago, deputies say two men committed a similar theft in the Walgreens on Martin Downs Boulevard in Palm City. They fled in a dark colored Nissan with nearly $400 dollars’ worth of perfume.
Deputies say the thieves struck again Monday night. Suspects matching a similar description stole an expensive bottle of alcohol from the Publix on Martin Downs Boulevard. Deputies say they then went to the CVS nearby where they were spotted and confronted by a clerk who forced them to leave.
Sheriff William Snyder says they believe the suspects are possibly from Broward or Miami-Dade Counties and are most likely selling the stolen items. D
eputies are currently reviewing the surveillance from the latest thefts.
