How the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast Nurtures the Bond Between People & Pets

When most people think of the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, they immediately think of pet adoptions. However, as Sarah Fisher explains in the latest episode of The Current by TreasureCoast.com, this organization does so much more.

With a mission to nurture the bond between people and pets, the Humane Society operates a full-scale rescue, therapy, and community outreach center. From providing low-cost spay and neuter services to running an expansive pet therapy program, the team works daily to improve the lives of both animals and their owners.

While adoptions are at the heart of their work, the Humane Society also provides:

  • Pet Therapy Programs – Over 100 certified therapy dogs visit hospitals, schools, and courtrooms to provide comfort and support.
  • Foster Programs – Helping pets in transition, including sick or shy animals who need extra care.
  • Disaster Relief Shelter – A safe haven for pets during hurricanes and emergencies.
  • Thrift Stores Supporting the Mission – Two locations in Stuart help fund veterinary care and shelter needs.

Upcoming Renovation

The adoption center is getting a major facelift, with renovations to the dog, cat, and small animal areas. To make it happen, the organization will rely on a network of foster homes to care for animals while construction is underway.
