On December 3rd, at approximately 2:06am, several patrons leaving Filthy’s Fine Cocktails and Beer Bar, flagged down Vero Beach Police officers about a male in need of emergency medical assistance. The officers responded to 1660 Old Dixie Highway and located a white male lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. EMS responded and transported the male to a local area hospital. The victim has been identified as Jeffery Rose, 25 years of age. At 8:30pm, Rose was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Vero Beach Police detectives identified a suspect in this investigation in the early afternoon hours of December 3rd. At approximately 3:00pm, Indian River County deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motor home known to be driven by the suspect in front of Howard Johnson hotel by I-95 in Vero Beach. The vehicle fled the deputies, leading the pursuit into Brevard County. At approximately 3:45pm, the pursuit came to a stop in Brevard County when the motor home caught fire. The suspect was apprehended and subsequently transported to a hospital in Orlando, where he remains at the time of this release. The suspect was identified as Christian Sagastume, black male, D.O.B. 02-10-1993.
On December 5th, Vero Beach Police detectives obtained a warrant for Christian Sagastume for FSS 782.04 Second Degree Murder with a firearm.
