Florida State University has announced a settlement with the woman who claimed that former Seminoles star quarterback Jameis Winston raped her.
University president John Thrasher said FSU is settling to avoid spending millions of dollars fighting Erica Kinsman’s lawsuit.
Kinsman is expected to receive $250,000 while her attorneys will get more than twice that amount–$700,000. Kinsman and her attorneys say the settlement also calls for FSU to make a five-year commitment to sexual assault awareness, prevention and training programs.
The settlement does not affect a separate lawsuit that Kinsman has filed against Winston.
Winston denied the allegations that he sexually assaulted Kinsman.
He was cleared by the university and a prosecutor declined to press charges.
Winston is currently the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Bucs.
