Local governments continue to fight against All Aboard Florida. Last week Martin and St Lucie counties filed a petition with the South Florida Water Management District to stop an environmental permit for the All Aboard Florida high speed passenger rail project that will connect Orlando to Miami.
The permit is needed to ensure that construction projects work to prevent flooding, protect wetlands and water quality, and limit impacts on certain species and public safety. The petition filed last week argues that the South Florida Water Management District looked at the All Aboard Florida project piece-by-piece, but not as one big picture.
If successful All Aboard Florida will have to take additional steps to protect the environment in order to receive their permit. An independent administrative law judge will review the case. There is no timeline on when a decision will be made.
